Scrapbook kept by attorney John Davis, grandfather of Henry Cabot Lodge (1902-1985), during his years as a clerk at the U.S. Department of State, 1871-73, and Court of Commissioners of Alabama Claims, 1874, in Washington, D.C. Scrapbook includes newspaper clippings; invitations, programs, and menus from concerts, benefits, shows, and parties attended, 1869-84; reports and letters received from U. S. President Ulysses S. Grant and other officials, 1871-96; and other memorabilia. Also includes an invitation, program, and other materials pertaining to his marriage to Sarah Helen Frelinghuysen of New Jersey in1875.
